Brussels is already living virtual reality

News / 28.03.2018

With the support of the Brussels Region, and more particularly ( and Brussels Invest & Export), five Brussels-based companies will travel to Laval, France, from 4 to 8 April to participate in one of the largest virtual reality fairs.

After Berlin and Austin, the Brussels startups specialising in virtual and augmented reality will visit Lille (Series Mania), Cannes (Film Market), Crans Montana, Cologne (Gamescom), La Mostra in Venice in September and IDFA in Amsterdam in November. "Brussels has the capacity to become a real crossroads for new technologies," says Cécile Jodogne, Brussels Secretary of State for External Trade. "The Brussels digital market is growing rapidly and is widely expanding its field of activity through more than thirty companies active in virtual, augmented and mixed reality. This is why the Brussels Region is investing 8 million euros via the NextTech Brussels plan, led by Didier Gosuin, Brussels Minister for the Economy and Employment. She also stressed that the digital sector represents 7.6% of the Region's GDP and employs 31,578 people in Brussels. Among the companies that will visit Laval Virtual, LucidWeb offers direct access to virtual reality, without having to download an application. With Demute and Poolpio, OneBonsai has developed Be.Immersed, which allows a visit of the city's strategic axes to attract potential investors. OUAT! offers, among other things, through its HakoBio industrial process simulation platform, the possibility of creating the digital twin of its environment and integrating dedicated applications. Today, HakoBio has more than 600 users, including major players in the biotechnology industry such as Sanofi, Servier and Pall Life Sciences. The audiovisual production agency Poolpio offers immersive solutions and 360° capture. In particular, it has signed a partnership with Canon to develop a 360° cinema rig and is filming the Grand-Place in Brussels. The Demute studio creates immersive and interactive soundtracks for new media to improve the feeling of immersion. (INT, GEN, COR 940, HCA, fr)
